The ISKCON Temple of Delhi — the Sri Sri Radha Parthasarathi Mandir at East of Kailash — is among the grandest Krishna temples of the capital, opened in 1998. Rising in carved sandstone above the city, it is known as the Glory of India, joining the worship of Radha and Krishna with halls of Vedic art and animatronic exhibits that bring the epics and the Bhagavad Gita to life.

Radha Parthasarathi

The central altar enshrines Radha and Krishna as Radha Parthasarathi — Krishna the charioteer of Arjuna — with Sita-Ram-Lakshman-Hanuman and Gaura-Nitai on the flanking altars, worshipped with the kirtan and deity-service of the ISKCON tradition. The temple was conceived by the architect Achyut Kanvinde and opened in 1998.

The Glory of India

Beyond the shrine, the complex houses a cultural centre called the Glory of India, with light-and-sound and robotic exhibits that retell the Mahabharata, the message of the Gita and the life of Krishna, and a museum of Vedic learning. It has become a place of pilgrimage and of teaching for visitors of every background.

A landmark of the capital

Set on a low hill at East of Kailash in south Delhi, the carved temple rises over the surrounding city, busy with devotees through the day and bright with festival at Janmashtami and the Rath Yatra. It is one of the most visited of Delhi’s modern temples.

How to reach the temple

  • By metro: Nehru Place and Kailash Colony stations are within easy reach.
  • By road: the temple is at Hare Krishna Hills, East of Kailash, south Delhi.
  • By air/rail: the airport is about 14 km away; New Delhi and Nizamuddin stations serve the city.
